Ideally located in the heart of the Lot department, the small town of Figeac is a central departure point for discovering some of the most famous attractions in the Occitanie region. These include the Gorges du Tarn, the Petite Camargue, the Dordogne Valley, the Cévennes, Toulouse, the Cité de Carcassonne and the Millau Viaduct...
The Foissac cave is a prehistoric cave just 15 minutes' drive south of Figeac. It's a real plunge into the heart of the earth and history that awaits you. It's a place where you can observe special mineral features and see many traces of prehistoric occupation. Objects such as pottery and animal bones can also be seen on site. Nearly 400 metres of underground passageways await you.
Between discovery and spectacle, the Gouffre de Padirac is an incredible underground adventure. The visit begins with a 75-metre shaft that takes you to the deepest part of the Earth. Aboard a boat, you will follow a river at a depth of around one hundred metres for 1 km, through a succession of narrow passages and vaulted chambers. Immersing yourself in the Gouffre de Padirac is guaranteed to take your breath away and teach you a little more about the history of this unique geological feature.
But there are many wonderful natural sites to discover, whether you drive to them or hike from Figeac, such as the GR6 linking the town to Souillac, the Boucle de Lunan, or the Fraysse at Lissac-et-Mouret. There are many other walks not far from Figeac.
